Amnesty international urges FG to release report on military excesses

Amnesty international has expressed displeasure over the failure of the federal government to release the report by a presidential panel on alleged human rights abuse by the army.

The presidential investigative panel was set by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 to review compliance of the Armed forces with Human Rights obligations and rules of engagement.

The panel had since submitted its report in February, 2018 but the federal government has not made it public.

Director of Amnesty International, Nigeria, Osai Ojigho in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday said, “When the panel finally commenced a year ago, many Nigerians took the brave step to testify, driven by their yearning for the truth to come out.

Their efforts must not be in vain. It is time the victims see the result of the investigations.”
