Amnesty boss settles rift with contractor

Mathew Dadiya, Abuja

The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (Rtd), on Friday said that he had since forgiven Mr Miebi Bribena, a contractor, handling capital projects in the Presidential Amnesty Office, Abuja.

Boroh said, “the Bible makes it very clear that forgiving others is necessary.”

The contractor was said to be angry with Boroh because the Amnesty boss insisted he most complete all the projects procured or risk prosecution, but the contractor rather went online to publish a defamatory statement against the person and office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

Responding to a written apology from Miebi Bribene, a contractor, handling capital projects in the Presidential Amnesty Office, Abuja, the Amnesty Coordinator, who quoted from Matthew 6:14-15 in the Holy Scriptures maintained that he believes in what the scriptures say; “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”.

According Gen. Boroh, “Being able to forgive those that offend you is the only sure means of having the Lord’s forgiveness as well, reiterating further that “forgiving those who have wronged us, frees us from feelings of anger, hate, holding grudges or seeking revenge”.

He noted that, “such emotions damage us from the inside out, rather than affecting the person who hurts us, pointing out that forgiveness does not mean we condone what the other person has done and it does not also imply that the other person is right”.

It would be recalled that Miebi Bribene, in his written apology to Gen. Boroh, had stated that, “I publicly apologise to my brother General Paul Tareala Boroh (Rtd) for every offense I have caused him. I have had to travel to Abuja to reconcile privately with him, but I strongly felt I should do this”.

He said, “There has also been a lot of communication gap between us that escalated this simple issue to this magnitude and I am glad that all those obstacles and road blocks have been totally dismantled”.

Bribena who lamented that the circumstances that led to the said libelous publication, acknowledged that, “I have had a difficult time in the very recent past between the conflicts of having my way to try to prove my point concerning my travails in the Amnesty Office”.

“In the past few weeks, I have had deep consultations with my God in prayers and He keeps reminding me that my submission is first is to His Holy Scriptures that cannot be broken.

“There is a better life in heaven after we leave this sinful world and I don’t want to miss the opportunity to be with my God.

”I don’t want to be in danger of judgment, hell fire and I don’t want my sacrifice to be rejected by God. Today I humble myself before the word of God for it does not matter to God if I am offended. Even if I feel I have a right, my bible tells me to leave my sacrifice and go and reconcile if my brother feels offended” he reiterated.
