AMATAS passes vote of confidence on Obiano

It was a double celebration in Anambra State as Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders (AMATAS) passed vote of confidence to the state Governor, Chef Willie Obiano, for his unprecedented administrative blueprints.

The event which took place at Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium Onitsha also marked 85th posthumous birthday celebration of the leader of Igbos and a warlord, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The celebration attracted traders from the 61 registered markets in the state, as well as government functionaries and other meaningful individuals.

Passing their vote of confidence, the National President AMATAS, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, pointed that Obiano administration had transformed markets across the state and had promptly intervened in their various challenges.

“The 10 million projects for each markets has gone a long way in providing adequate structures and facilities that will improve trading.

“It is unprecedented in the history of the state that all markets were shot down in respect for Ojukwu and in solidarity with the present administration.

“We assure you of our votes. We will protect it to ensure transparency. I advise other meaningful personalities to set aside personal interest and embrace continuity for the good of Igbos. ”

Reading their communique, the National Secretary of the association, Chukwuma Eluchalu, revealed that the vote of confidence was as a result of his numerous developments within three years.

Eluchalu stated some of the achievements which includes prompt payment of salary, massive investment in agriculture, procurement of three fire-fighting vans for the three zonal markets and security among others.

Responding, Governor Obiano said his administration had provided three state-of-the art fire-fighting equipment to replace those ones at the three zonal markets.

“The N10 million offered to markets to build a project of their choice will be increased to further accommodate other anticipated projects you have in mind.

“We have mapped out plans to support artisans to be more productive in adding values to their lives and to contribute in the economy of the state,” Obiano maintained.

Obiano stressed that he would intensify efforts to provide modern facilities in every market and expand their structural designs to decongest some markets.

He charged them not to relent in support for him as he would always provide their basic needs.

Highlights of the event were a unanimous voice vote by the traders and cutting of posthumous birthday cake of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
