Allow free and fair election in Edo, Wike tells Buhari

Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the course of democracy to reign in the upcoming Edo Gubernatorial election.
The Governor made this call in an interview with Channels Television, where he referenced how former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole had gone to the Presidential Villa to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for creating due enabling environment for a free and fair election after his re-election in 2012.
“If Mr President wants this election to be free and fair. It will be free and fair. How? All you tell them is- look, I want to use this as a test case to enthrone democracy”
“When Oshiomole won a second tenure, Oshiomole came to Aso Villa and thanked Mr Jonathan, the former President, saying, Dr Jonathan, I thank you for enthroning democracy in Edo, I thank you for allowing one man, one vote, I thank you for allowing one youth, one vote, I thank you for allowing one woman, one vote”

“So what is wrong now? If Mr President says there will be democracy, Edo people must vote. Who will join Obaseki too to go and thank the President?- thank you for allowing democracy reign, thank you for allowing one man, one vote”
“That is what we want. As Jonathan allowed free and fair election in Edo State, Mr President should also allow free and fair election that’ll make Nigerians to be happy. That’s what we’re trying to say”.
Mr Wike’s call comes in the wake of the festered political clash between Comrade Adams Oshiomole and present Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, which has seen the impeachment of the deputy speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Yekini Idiaye.
On Wednesday, officers of the state Police Command reportedly laid siege to the State House of Assembly Complex, at the behest of the All Progressives Congress, prompting Governor Obaseki to order an immediate renovation of the complex to avoid what was perceived as an attempt to initiate the process of his impeachment.
