Alleged N47m judgement sum diversion, judiciary defends judge
*Says report untrue
The Lagos state judiciary has debunked the report in some online media that a judge of the Lagos High Court diverted the sum of N47m judgement debt when he was the Chief Registrar.
According to the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mrs Grace Alo, it was established that the facts in published on the alleged diversion are not only false but calculated to tarnish the image of the Judiciary and the Hon. Judge whose name was therein mentioned.
Recalled that Justice Ganiyu Safari was alleged to have diverted the said sum which he reportedly diverted to his private account when he was the Chief Registrar and it became a public news when the party who won the matter was reportedly said to have requested for the payment of the money which the judgement failed to give proper account of.
The statement issued by Mrs Alo reads: “No investigation by the Hon. Chief Judge has shown that any money was diverted from the Chief Registrar’s account into a private account of the Hon. Judge.”
Mrs. Grace Alo also described the news as untrue and a calculated attempt to discredit the Judiciary and the judge.”
No petition was forwarded to the Chief Judge of Lagos state by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) in respect of the alleged Judgment sum.
“No investigation by the Hon. Chief Judge has shown that any money was diverted from the Chief Registrar’s account into a private account of the Hon. Judge. The allegation that there is a cover up of the case and that a soft-landing has been given to the Hon. Judge to refund the money is both false and unfounded.
“As the last hope of the common man, the Lagos state judiciary remains committed and focused in discharging its statutory duties without fear or favour,” Alo said.
