Albino Foundation tasks Buhari on discrimination

The incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has been called upon by the Albino Foundation, Ekiti State chapter, to place high premium on how to maintain an egalitarian society that would prevent discrimination against albinos in the country.
The body also called on the National Assembly to enact a law that would banish all forms of discrimination against them.
Delivering a paper on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti at an event organised by the Foundation, former Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Maiduguri, Prof. Muyiwa Igbalajobi, noted that the discrimination in areas of employment, marriage was killing the potentials of members and reducing them to beggars in the society.
He said: “There is an urgent need for the National Assembly to ensure the passage of a bill into law that would mainstream albinism into the Nigerian family system. This law will assist the albinos in the areas of employment, welfare packages, and prevent regular discrimination and stigmatisation these people are facing in Nigeria.
State Coordinator of the group, Muyiwa Abegunde, and a Director in the Ministry of Agriculture and a leader of the Albino Foundation, Dr. Ebenezer Ogunlade, appealed to the government at all levels to look into the prevalence of albinism in Nigeria for proper policy formulation.
He urged the Federal Government to design a special healthcare and education system for the group to mitigate all forms of health hazards bedeviling the members.
