Alao-Akala Urges Voters To Be Vigilant

The Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in Saturday’s election in Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, has told the people of Oyo State to be vigilant and report any strange faces or movement in their area, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to rig the election.

The former governor who spoke through his director of public affairs, Oludare Ogunlana said the call became imperative following the fraud that marred the last national assembly election in the State where “INEC officials allegedly connived with agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the election. Most of the card readers did not work in Oyo North senatorial district and they resorted to manual process. In the process, unregistered APC hired voters were allowed to vote.”

He, however, called on security agencies to be alert to their duties saying that “it is better to prevent the re-occurence of rigging. We are telling them to take position quickly so as to prevent what could lead to breach of law and order”.

He continued: “We cannot trust the resident electoral commissioner, Amb. Rufus Akeju as he was an aide to APC national leader and former governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We recall how he was bundled out of Osun State. Just like we have been saying, we have seen coalition between APC and Akeju.

“We call on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega not to support fraud. Just like he did during the presidential election and he was applauded, we want the same in Oyo State.”

“We thank Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for the way he has snubbed Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s campaign. It would have been politically dangerous for the reverred general to stand with a corrupt governor

“We call on the president-elect to emulate what President Goodluck Jonathan did because there can never be peace without justice. He is the president of the nation and not APC alone. Governor Abiola Ajimobi is trying to subvert the wish of the people.”

While calling on the people to report any strange movement in their areas, he alleged that the APC has already thumb printed ballot papers inside the government house. He said that during the inspection of sensitive materials for the election, 12, 000 ballot papers are missing from the materials meant for Ibadan South West local government where the governor comes from “and INEC is yet to tell us how it developed wings”, he added.
