Al-makura defends decision to establish ranches

Nasarawa state Governor Umaru Tanko Al- makura has remanded the people of the state that his government is not going back on creation of grazing reserve as earlier promised.
The Governor who fumes as he fielded questions from journalist last Saturday on occasion of tree planting at city hall in Lafia the state capital said, it would leverage persistence crisis between Farmers and herdsmen in the state and also queue in the Federal government plan to increase yield of livestock in the county.
He expressed dismay over his attack on creation of ranchers by some people whom he described as, “undesirable element,” in the state, mischievous and unpatriotic, only to blackmailed his administration.
Al- makura, who curiously said, “anybody in Nasarawa state that is either attacking or mischievously attacking the policy is not a patriotic citizen and not sincere and the state will not listen to such undesirable elements.
“When we are talking about security, we are talking about adding value to the society. Issue of politics should not come in Nasarawa state has seven dedicated gazetted grazing reserves that were there from time immemorial, even some of us were infants, the only problem is that some of them were encroached and abandoned by some past government, we are not bringing in new site for grazing,” he warned.
On tree planting, he said 20,000 species of trees were distributed across the state for planting under the supervision of youth who will earn 6,000 monthly.
He equally banned procession of charcoal in the state as it affects environmental degradations saying the state government in recent time employed 1,500 youth as environmental guards to help checkmate unlawful falling of trees.
