Akpabio rejigs Senate standing Committees leadership

Following a few appointments made, the Senate on Tuesday made slight changes to chairmanship of some of its standing committees.

In view of the signing to an Act of Parliaments of the North-West Development Commission, Senator Hussaini Babangida of Jigawa State has been appointed Chairman Senate Committee on the Commission while the deputy chairman will be Senator Mohammed Dandutse of Katsina State. Other members shall be announced accordingly.

As announced by the Senate President, “in view of the signing into law, an Act of Parliaments creating the South-East Development Commission, the Senate Committee has been constituted, and the chairman will be distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and the deputy will be Senator Engineer Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi State.

“In view of the assent into the Act of Parliaments creating the North- Central Development Commission, the new chairman of the Senate Committee on the new development commission will be Senator Titus Zam.

“Accordingly, we shall announce the new chairman of the Committee on Rules and Business, who must be a very versatile lawmaker who is familiar with the rules. In the meantime, the deputy chairman of that committee will be District Senator Isah Jibrin.

The new chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations will be Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. While the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content will be Senator Joel Onawoku of Delta State

Senator Victor Umeh who earlier was in charge of Diaspora Committee now heads the Senate Committee on
National Identity and National Population,

Senator Abdul Ningi now becomes chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA while Senator Garba Maidoki is chairman, Senate Committee on Sports.
