Akin Monehin’s Uncommon Brilliance and Intelligence

Without a doubt, Akin Monehin, a Business Transformation Manager at Shell is a delight to listen to. Also, to say that he has an intimidating profile is to put it mildly.

Akin Monehin is married to Omowumi who is a trained lawyer and also an entrepreneur. They have two male children.

Akin has an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2013 and attended the University of Dundee’s Graduate School of Natural Resources, Law, Policy and Management where he was awarded a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering for Non-Engineers. He is an alumnus of the University of Lagos with a BSc (Hons), Economics, graduating in 1999 with a second class (upper division) degree.

Akin, who is a multi-industry leader, having risen to senior levels in the aviation industry as Commercial Manager (International) within the Virgin Group (Virgin Nigeria) and within Royal Dutch Shell as a Business Leader, started his career as a Primary 2 teacher in Rehoboth Schools Egbeda. He joined British Airways in January 2000 as a Telephone Sales Agent.

He worked briefly at the ticket desk and airport as a Customer Service agent. Akin is one of the pioneer Sales Executives working for Virgin who started operation in Nigeria in 2001. Shortly after, he was appointed as the District Sales Manager Eastern Nigeria, based in Port Harcourt.

He later moved to Virgin Nigeria as Regional Manager Northern & Eastern Nigeria, based in Abuja. Akin became Senior Sales Manager responsible for Virgin outstations in Africa, leading the Commercial teams to launch destinations like Douala, Accra, Dakar.

He then became the Commercial Manager (International Outstations), coordinating Country Managers. He was part of the team that launched Johannesburg and Dubai routes for Virgin Nigeria.

Akin joined Shell as Corporate Travel Manager then moved on to become the Head of Land Logistics, covering Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri & Abuja. While he was Head of Land Logistics, he was seconded by Shell Exploration & Production Africa (SEPA) to Nigeria LNG Ltd for a 6- month Business Improvement project.

He was transferred to Qatar Shell GTL Ltd, the world’s largest GTL plant, in 2015 as the LCoE Strategy & Planning Manager. He returned to Nigeria in January 2020 to take up the Business Transformation Manager role for the Shell Exploration & Production Company of Nigeria. He has exposure to different oil & gas businesses – Deepwater Oil & Gas Exploration & Production, Conventional Oil & Gas Exploration & Production, Gas to Liquid (GtL) business, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) business.
