Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday granted official state pardon to thirty prisoners in the state.
The convicts are those who are currently serving their various jail terms at the Olokuta Medium Prison in Akure.
Yemi Olowolabi, the Commissioner for Information in the state disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.
Mr. Olowolabi said the prisoners were granted pardon by the governor having been found to be in a good conduct even while serving their various jail terms.
He disclosed that the state pardon was also part of the means to mark the 57th anniversary independence of Nigeria.
The Information commissioner added that the pardon given to the convicts was a follow up to the recommendation of the State Advisory Council.
Olowolabi maintained that the prisoner’s pardon is a ‘prerogative of mercy’ which the state governor is grant especially during the annual anniversary of the country’s independence.
“Most of the released prisoners were recommended for pardon on account of having been found to be of good conduct while serving their jail terms” he added.
He, however, expressed hope that the pardoned prisoners would be of a good behaviour and contribute their quota to the progress of the state at large.
