Ajagba Launches Bursary, Free JAMB Registration for Indigent Abia Youths

The Chief of Staff to the Abia Governor, Dr Caleb Ajagba, has launched a free 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration and bursary award scheme for indigent students in the Nsulu clan.

The initiative was unveiled on Monday at his country home in Umuezegu, Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

Ajagba described the scheme as a personal intervention, stressing that it is not funded by the state government.

He said the gesture was designed to ease the financial burden on families and expand access to tertiary education for deserving youths.

According to him, the free JAMB registration will enable candidates to sit for the examination without financial constraints, while the bursary will assist undergraduates in meeting essential academic needs.

He emphasised that the support is strictly for students in genuine need and warned that it could be withdrawn if beneficiaries fail to take their studies seriously.

Ajagba also disclosed plans to extend assistance to youths interested in vocational training, entrepreneurship and other empowerment programmes.

He said his vision is to see every household in the community produce at least one graduate and one successful entrepreneur in the future.

The Chief of Staff reaffirmed the commitment of Gov. Alex Otti’s administration to youth empowerment and human capital development.

He noted that initiatives such as the Abia Leadership Academy and TechRise reflect the government’s focus on equipping young people with leadership, digital and entrepreneurial skills.

Some beneficiaries, including Martins Jacob, Chinaemenma Amajuoyi, Favour Nmesomachi and Dickson Success, expressed gratitude for the intervention.

They pledged to excel in their examinations and make good use of the opportunity.

No fewer than 180 undergraduates and school leavers seeking admission into higher institutions benefited from the initiative.
