Air Peace delays flights after heavy rainfall in Lagos

Air Peace has announced delays to some of its flights on Tuesday following heavy rainfall in Lagos.

In a statement signed by Osifo-Whiskey, the airline’s spokesperson, the carrier said weather conditions disrupted operations across its network.

“Dear Esteemed Customer, Due to the heavy downpour of rain in Lagos this morning, some flights across our operating networks will be delayed,” the airline said.

It appealed for passengers’ understanding, stressing that safety remained its core commitment.

“While weather is beyond our control and safety remains our utmost priority, we appeal for your understanding as we manage the disruptions as best as we can and get you to your destinations safely.

“At Air Peace, safety is not just a priority but a core commitment. We remain dedicated to upholding the highest safety standards for our passengers and crew. Thank you for your continued trust and support,” the airline added.

NCAA Warns Airlines on Passenger Welfare

The development came as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reminded airlines of their obligations to stranded passengers.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, said airlines must provide accommodation if passengers are held at the terminal until midnight before a flight is cancelled.

“If an airline has kept passengers at the terminal up to 00 hours before cancelling a flight, they owe their passengers hotel accommodation,” he said.

Achimugu also cautioned airlines against abandoning passengers at airports.

“The authority would no longer tolerate situations where airline staff intentionally disappear, leaving NCAA officials to handle frustrated passengers,” he said.

He added that the government had directed the NCAA to “publicly name and shame airlines that fail to comply with aviation regulations”.

“For infractions that are sanctionable, the NCAA would apply the fullest measures possible,” Achimugu said, warning airlines to comply with the rules or face penalties.
