A’Ibom Labour Party losses 2015 governorship candidate to PDP

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party during the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State, Senator Helen Esuene has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Esuene, a former minister of environment during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration re-joined the party on whose platform she served as a senator between 2011 and 2015.
The wife of the former military administrator of old Cross River State, late Brigadier General Jacob Udokaha Esuene, left the PDP during the 2014 governorship primaries of the party when she failed to secure the governorship ticket of the party, and flown the flag of the Labour party during the general election in Akwa Ibom State.
Esuene made the declaration back to PDP during the flag off of the local government election campaign of the party in Eket Local Government Area on Wednesday.
Leading some of her supporters, including executive members of Labour Party the area, back to the PDP, Senator Esuene said her return was long overdue, describing PDP as the best platform for Akwa Ibom people.
She said, “We went to realise our political ambition, so that we can serve the people of Akwa Ibom State, but our brother, Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well, we have to queue behind him.
“I didn’t leave PDP, I was on sabbatical leave, I’m happy to be back to where I belong, I’m glad with the achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel. We will work hard to ensure that he is re-elected come 2019, so that he can continue with his good works for the people of Akwa Ibom State.”
Senator Esuene and her supporters were received back to the party by the PDP state Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo.
