A’Ibom: Gov Emmanuel constructs 1,740 kilometers of roads
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel is currently undertaking not less than one thousand seven hundred and forty (1,740) kilometers of roads across the state in preparation for industrialisation agenda of the government.
The state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, announced this on Wednesday during the inspection of ongoing road projects across the state initiated by the present administration in the state.
The roads inspected by the commissioner include flood eradication site along the service lane of Edet Akpan avenue in Uyo, a project which the government say it will be used to de-flood Ewet housing estate and its environs, also inspected were, the 3.5 kilometer ring road project, 6.1 kilometers Atan Offot road, 19.5 Nung Oku Ikono-Etinan road as well as the 25 kilometers Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road handled by the construction giants, Julius Berger.
Speaking during the inspection tour, Inyang-eyen said, “Governor Udom Emmanuel is determined to deliver a solid and well organized road network and other efficient infrastructural base to support his industrialization agenda, before May 2018, when he will be marking his third year in office, Akwa Ibom people will witness a harvest of roads to be commissioned for their use, this will include, 45 internal roads within Uyo, that is why we are advising the contractors to take advantage of the dry season to expedite their work”.
He however stressed that the state government will not compromise on the quality and specification of the road designs given to the contractors, because every road built by the government has a minimum life span of 25 years.
He a sued for support from the people for the administration to deliver on its promises to the citizens of the state, explaining that the people of the state will have cause to celebrate governor Emmanuel when he accomplished his mission for the state.
Some youths in Atan Offot Community who thronged out to receive the commissioner and his team, commended the governor for turning their sorrow to joy, explaining that the community has suffered perennial flooding for decades, but can now heave a sigh of relief as the road projects and drainages around the area are near completion.
