Agunechemba support group endorses Obiano for second term

No fewer than 10,000 registered members of the Agunechemba Support Group have unanimously vowed to return Governor Willie Obiano to complete his ‘excellent achievements’ he started by voting him in come November 18, 2017 governorship election.

The group, under the leadership of Senator Annie Okonkwo, stated this during a ‘Solidarity Endorsement Rally’, it orgainsed at Emmaus House, Awka recently.

The rally was to offer their support to Obiano by involving leaders of the group drawn from the 326 wards in Anambra.

The organiser and the leader of the group, Sen. Okonkwo, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said his decision to support the present administration was because of its unprecedented achievements.

Okonkwo, who described Governor Obiano as blessing to Anambra State, noted that the governor had recorded tremendous successes within three years at the helm, more than what his predecessors achieved.

He said that he had no prior ‘agreement whatsoever’ with the governor for support during the election.

Sen. Okonkwo said: “I am only mobilising the grassroots for him because I am convinced that Obiano’s re-election will benefit the generality of Ndi Anambra’’.

He explained that he was successfully investing in the state because Obiano provided security and stability that helped to create the enabling environment for investors to return.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye, said at the occasion that there was no division in the party and re-assured that members of the Agunechemba Support Group would be integrated into the party’s campaign structure.

According to him, all that matters is to return Governor Obiano during the November 18 governorship election in the state.

Responding, Governor Willie Obiano expressed appreciation to Senator Okonkwo and members of the group for the overwhelming show of solidarity toward him.

He urged the members to endeavour to register with APGA at their various wards.

He pointed out that he was seeking re-election to enable him to consolidate on the achievements of his administration, especially as it concerned security, agriculture, youth empowerment and investments promotion.

Obiano pledged to ensure that power would be successfully be transmitted to the South Senatorial District on completion of his second term.

A former PDP stalwart, Dr. Mike Ogbaru, said that every meaningful individual in the state should support Governor Obiano, describing him as the best governor in the country.

The highlight was decoration of Dr. Ogbaru with APGA regalia and adopting him as a member of the party.
