Agege LG Unveils ₦100m Grant for Youths, Women in Small Businesses
The Agege Local Government Council has launched a ₦100 million grant to support youths and women engaged in micro and small-scale enterprises.
Chairman Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa announced the intervention during the graduation ceremony of the Skills Elevation Programme held at the council secretariat on Friday.
A total of 1,000 beneficiaries completed vocational and digital training in areas including catering, food processing, fashion design, make-up and gele styling, hairstyling, home essentials production, sandal making, and digital technology. Obasa said the initiative, implemented in collaboration with Speed Up Lagos (Anti-Poverty Squad), is designed to strengthen grassroots enterprises and human capital development.
“This programme underscores our commitment to sustainable empowerment to build a more prosperous Agege,” Obasa stated, adding that the ₦100 million grant would be injected directly into the local economy to support small businesses.
Community leaders and dignitaries, including former Agege Council Chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, praised the initiative as a consolidation of existing empowerment structures. Dr. Sherifat Adedoyin of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board noted that the programme aligns with Lagos State’s broader skills development agenda.
Beneficiaries expressed optimism about the impact of the training and grants. Catering graduate Mrs. Kemi Adebayo said the programme would help expand her food business, while digital technology trainee Mr. Olalekan Sanni described the initiative as timely, enabling him to compete in the tech space. Community advocate Mr. Tunde Afolabi added that the intervention would reduce poverty and strengthen stability in Agege.
The event was attended by the Council Vice-Chairman, Mr. Adewale Azeez, Council Manager, Mr. Adesina Osikoya, and other community leaders.
