Age long dispute over land: Delta Assembly seeks peaceful co-existence between Edo, Delta
The Delta State House of Assembly has sought for peaceful co-existence among people of Edo/Delta State over the age-long dispute. The speaker, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori who spoke to our reporter on the current crisis over boundary dispute, explained that the State Government was committed to the peaceful resolution of the land dispute to restore permanent peace and security in the locality, and however frowned at the destruction of plants at the Oreghwa farms.
While assuring the people of Umuagwa that the Okowa government was on top of the situation, the speaker emphasized the need for all to be calm, and maintain the peace, while steps were being taken to ensure that the issue was amicably settled.
He maintained that the crisis could breed destruction, and hatred, adding that peace engendered development, and charged the people involved in the dispute to be part of the peace process.
According to the speaker: “we have the report that the people of Umuaghwa-Abraka have been peaceful, and hence they refused to take necessary action against PRESCO Plc, but we are ready to make peace”.
It was declared that the firm PRECO Plc had already taken over about 15, 000 hectres of land belonging to Okpara watersides, Igun, Eku and Umuaghwu-Abraka communities while approaching Abraka, Obiaruku land Abavo without due consultation with the people, but an official of PRESCO Plc who did not want his name in the print said it was not true, adding: “the people are just causing trouble to disrupt the workings in our company”.
