Again, Police extend tinted glass permit deadline to October 2
The Nigeria Police Force has extended the grace period for enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit requirement, shifting the deadline to October 2, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force public relations officer said the decision was approved by Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police, following a surge in permit applications via the official police portal.
“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations,” the statement read.
Adejobi explained that the extension would also “provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”
He stressed that the authorised application platform remains https://possap.gov.ng, warning citizens to “disregard any unofficial channels.”
He further urged Nigerians to report any cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the police.
“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the Nigerian people and remains committed to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all,” the statement read.
The tinted glass regulation was introduced to combat crimes committed using vehicles with obscured interiors but has long attracted public criticism over alleged arbitrary enforcement.
