AFCON 2021: Sunday Oliseh names favourites country to win trophy in Cameroon

AFCON

Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has named Nigeria as one of the favourites to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon early next year.

Speaking at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday after the inauguration of the 10-Year Nigerian Football Development Master plan Committee of which he is a member, Oliseh said those who write off Gernot Rohr’s side are doing so at their own peril.

Oliseh said, “Nigeria should not be written off as regards winning the AFCON because we have the talent to win the trophy.

“Nigerians should stop underrating our team. We are one of the favourites to win the trophy.”

He added, “The players must rise to the occasion, and with little luck, they are capable of winning and making Nigeria proud. Don’t write the Eagles off.”

The AFCON 2021 is scheduled to run from 9 January to 6 February 2022.

Nigeria are in Group D alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

Meanwhile, Algeria won the last edition of the tournament in Egypt.

The Desert Warriors defeated Senegal 1-0 in the final to win the 2019 AFCON.
