AESID condemns abduction, torture of Ebonyi Ex-DC Coordinator

The Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora, AESID wishes to join numerous Ebonyians and groups in condemning the kidnap last week Thursday of the former Coordinator of Anuagata Development Centre, Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Barr. Amos Ogbonnaya by some political thugs believed to be loyal to the government of Engr. David Umahi.

According to AESID, the victim had been abducted at gun point after he was bombarded with series of threatening text messages and phone calls by family members, appointees and associates of the Governor shortly after he made some vehemently revealing expose’ on the systemic corruption that has become the modus of the third tier administration in the state under the watch and supervision of Governor Umahi, either directly or indirectly.

The Association recalled that the occasion, was a discussion programme on the African Independent Television, AIT penultimate week wherein Ogbonnaya had carefully reeled out how the governor and his surrogates using the state’s Joint Account Committee, JAC AESID condemns abduction, torture of Ebonyi Ex-DC Coordinator.

This was made known in a statement signed by Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu (AESID President, World wide)

“He was consequently abducted on his return from a PTA meeting at the Federal Government College, FGC, Okposi by a group alleged to have been led by one Chinonso, alias CONSIDER said to be an aide to the SSA to the Governor on Youths mobilization, Mark Onu, alias ‘Chopper.’

“In out rightly condemning this ugly incident which we now consider as one attack on Ebonyians too many buoyed by the simple fact of the intolerant disposition of the Governor to criticisms and opposing views, we ask both the Governor who is the principal accused and the CP who has shown obvious negligence in arresting the suspects should step aside.

“In their stead, AESID urges the Inspector General of Police to immediately constitute a special crack team to investigate and bring these evil perpetrators to book.

“We feel justified in this request because a lot of attacks on innocent Ebonyians since Umahi ascended to power have been swept under the carpet, therefore emboldening the political thugs that are often recruited as willing tools to unleash mayhem on peaceful individuals just for baring their minds on issues.

“All have been fingered in this terrible incident must therefore be brought to book without further delay no matter how highly placed they may be”.

The Association further warned the Umahi administration against any further attack on opposition leaders and elements as the open invitation to anarchy and chaos is capable of igniting fires in communities in our already troubled State.

In addition, the Association clarified to “members of the unsuspecting public over the tissues of falsehoods being bandied by Governor Umahi even on national Televisions about peace returning to the war-ravaged Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State which has been boiling and has CONTINUED TO BOIL since January 22nd this year”.

AESID urged Nigerians and the world “to disregard and discountenance the claims of the Governor because killings are still going on in the area even as we speak. For we strongly believe that the blood of those innocent and defenceless citizens will yet cry for justice on the head of all those who have a hand in the Effium carnage”.

The Association prayed for total return of peace in every troubled part of the state as it charged Governor Umahi to focus on fighting the anthropogenic hunger and poverty that his administration has made an official policy in the state rather than unleashing his army of thugs against Ebonyians who insist on doing things right!
