Adamawa Lawmaker Kidnapped
A Member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly Adamu Usman, has been kidnapped .
Some armed men were said to have raided the house of the lawmaker at the Kofare area of Yola, the state capital at 11 pm on Friday. They bundled the lawmaker into a car and whisked him away.
The whereabouts of Usman, who represents Toungo constituency in the Assembly, was yet to be known at press time.
The state has been thrown into turmoil in the last few days with the House divided into two factions. Two of the lawmakers are claiming to be speakers.
According to the reports, the faction headed by Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is siting at the Assembly complex while the rival faction headed by Jerry Kumdisi, believed to be loyal to the Governor Bala James Nggilari, is siting at the Government House conference hall.
The suspected kidnappers are yet to place a ransom on the abducted lawmaker, or state reason for their action.
The Adamawa Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Othman Abubakar, told Daily Times that men and officers of the force were investigating the incident.
Usman is one of the only two members of the Assembly who won re-election to the house for a second term after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
