Adamawa APC to Hold Ward Congress After National Convention to Accommodate Governor Fintiri
The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will delay its ward congress until after the party’s national convention, a strategic move designed to accommodate the anticipated defection of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to the ruling party.
A former National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the APC, Alhaji Umar Duhu, confirmed the development on Thursday.
According to Duhu, the postponement was deliberately sanctioned by the party to provide ample time for the governor to finalize his transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“We are expecting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to join the party soon, so the National Executive Council of the party took the decision to enable the governor to conclude his arrangements before defecting to the APC,” Duhu explained during an exclusive telephone interview from his Abuja residence.
He further elaborated on the party’s timeline, noting that the APC national convention is slated to begin on March 25, 2026.
Following the convention, the party’s membership registration portal will be temporarily reopened to ensure the incoming defectors are seamlessly integrated before grassroots elections take place.
“After our convention, which is scheduled to begin on March 25, 2026, the APC portal will be opened for two weeks to enable the governor and those defecting with him to register, ensuring a level playing field during the congresses,” he added.
Duhu expressed strong optimism about the governor’s entry, stating that the APC at both the state and national levels is thrilled at the prospect of welcoming Fintiri and his supporters to form an “indivisible family.” He noted that this political realignment practically guarantees the party’s success in the state.
“The aim of the APC is victory for President Bola Tinubu and victory for all candidates contesting on the platform of our great party in Adamawa State; any other consideration is secondary,” Duhu stated.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State chapter of the PDP has reacted to the swirling defection rumors.
The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Victor Dogo, recently addressed the speculation with a striking tone of loyalty to the governor, regardless of his political affiliation.
“It is not a criminal offence if the governor decamps to any party of his choice. If the governor is moving, we are all going with him. We are not looking at the party, but what he represents — national unity and development,” Dogo said.
Addressing reports concerning the alleged removal of PDP flags across various parts of the state, Dogo downplayed its significance.
“The PDP believes in results, not mounting flags on streets that cannot bring development to the people of Adamawa State,” he remarked.
Dogo also pointed out that President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to commission key projects in Adamawa underscored a strong alignment between the governor and the President’s economic vision.
