Activist laments poor state of S’East roads

A human right activist, Mr. Sam Ogbonna, has called on the federal government to give the South East zone a sense of belonging in the area of good roads and maintenance.
Ogbonna argued that over 45 years after the civil war, the Igbo race were yet to be allowed to drive on good roads.
In an interview with Daily Times in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, he said, “It should be noted that every area has peculiar topography and therefore, road construction in such areas is carried out with materials that suit such environment”.
He noted that he entire South East was erosion prone, pointing out that, “you do not merely pour red mud and coat it with asphalt without stone base”.
The activist alleged that all the roads constructed in the South East were undertaken by contractors who had no construction pedigree, adding that after the construction of the roads the first rain washed them off.
