Accord Party appeals Lagos Council Election Tribunal judgement

The Accord Party (AP) in Lagos State has appealed the judgemnt delivered by the State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal upholding the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate in the Idi-Olowo -Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in the chairmanship election.
The tribunal headed by retired Justice Folashde Atiba, had last week upheld the victory of the APC candidate, Raska Ajala in the election dismissing the petition of the Accord Party as lacking merit.
But reacting to the judgement in an interview with The Daily Times, the secretary of Accord Party in Lagos State, Lanre Ogundare said the party was not satisfied with the judgement of the tribunal, adding that it had appealed the judgement.
Ogundare said the party wants an interpretation of the LASIEC guideline from the tribunal stressing, that the APC submitted its candidate’s list outside LASIEC guild- line approved day.
He said “We know we are fighting a tripod battle, the state government, the Commission and the other forces. But we would not condemn the tribunal totally because they have given us some fair hearing.
“The substance of the case was ignored by the tribunal. The APC did not comply with the guild-line of LASIEC, go and check, the House did not amend Section 25 of the Act that says substitution can be done.
“Yes there was a law from the State Assembly few days to the election, but LASIEC didn’t amend its guild line to that effect, so it does not hold. That mean the APC candidate could not participate in the election and his votes are void.” Ogundare said.
