Abuse of office: FAAN boss orders employment review
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has authorized a further internal review of certain employment-related concerns that have come to management’s attention.
This is coming on the heels of an investigative report carried out by our correspondent titled ‘abuse of office intimidation reign in FAAN’ where senior AVSEC personnel were made to serve under their juniors.
All attempts to get the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbeberi proved abortive as never responded to messages via his WhatsApp.
But in a dramatic move, Mr Agbeberi in a statement Sunday, declared the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku has called for a review aimed at strengthening clarity, ensuring uniform application of policies, and reinforcing confidence in the systems that govern staff progression.
According to him, It will also enable management to address any gaps and improve existing structures where necessary. “FAAN reiterates that no employee is compelled to alter or suppress their qualifications at any point in our recruitment process.
All engagement procedures are based on the advertised positions, their requirements at the time, and the voluntary submissions of applicants. Where subsequent policy adjustments or reviews are required, FAAN ensures such matters are handled responsibly and in accordance with public service standards”
The statement further disclosed that FAAN’s recruitment, placement, and career progression procedures are guided by established regulations designed to promote equity, competence, and organizational efficiency.
“The Authority maintains a strong culture of due process and will not deviate from frameworks that ensure fairness and meritocracy across all cadires. In line with this commitment”
Our correspondent had reported that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN’s) Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) units recruited in 2016/2017, have condmned what they called unequal treatment, treatment, career stagnation, and abuse of office that have affected their ranks, progression, and welfare.
They are calling on the management of FAAN to intervene and address the issue for peace to reign in the organisation.
