Abuja Airport Records 10,000 Go Cashless Card Registration
At least 10,000 “Go Cashless” cards have been registered at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja since the policy’s implementation began, according to Mr. Ahmed Danjuma, the airport manager.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, Danjuma revealed this.
He clarified that the nationwide implementation of the cashless toll policy was the cause of the brief traffic jams at the toll gate on Monday and early Tuesday morning.
He claims that despite the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s efforts to raise awareness, most airport users failed to register on time, even though registration started in August 2025.
“In accordance with this government’s policy to do away with cash collection at toll gates, we have been cashless since March 1. The action is consistent with the larger reforms being implemented by the federal government.
“The policy seeks to improve revenue optimization and transparency, which were not fully implemented by any prior administration.
“We’ve been telling airport users to obtain their FAAN cards so they can simply tap the gate to open the barrier.
“You will be disappointed if you go to any FAAN gate and want to pay with cash because no one will let you pass through.”
In the meantime, a few travelers who spoke with NAN praised the government’s initiative.
They pointed out that the reform would boost revenue generation for national development and help improve service delivery.
They claim that the reform can reposition Nigeria’s aviation industry for expansion and increased competitiveness in the global market.
However, they urged the government to use the money raised to improve the nation’s airports’ infrastructure.
