Absence of Master Plan Worries Aviation Stakeholders

The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers NAAPE has decried the absence of commitment to implementing various aviation action plans, particularly, the Aviation Road Map.
In a congratulatory letter to the President elect Muhammadu Buhari, the president of NAAPE Engineer Isaac Balami called for the bringing into fruition the plan to re-establish a national carrier.
According to Balami local carriers should be encouraged through incentives to forge mergers cum alliances encourage the quick completion of at least one aircraft maintenance hangar in the country, such as the Uyo facility that was already at advanced stage but now abandoned due to high costs. He called for the hasten of the certification process of at least the major airports adding that it will go along with the development of one, or two, hubs in the country, particular the Lagos hub.
Balami advised that the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria should be upgraded to an international institution while full and real autonomy to must be granted to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and grow it into a world class regulatory agency in order to enable the NCAA drive the process of growth and development. He appealed to the President elect to appoint an aviation professional as Minister of Aviation adding that it has been their long held opinion that an experience aviation professional with the needed managerial and political clout at the helm of affairs in the aviation ministry will move the industry forward better and faster.
