Abia: Orji Inaugurates Committee To Appraise PDP’s Performance

Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has inaugurated an 18-member Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) committee saddled with the responsibility of ascertaining the perceivable problems and constraints faced by the party during the 2015 elections.

The committee was set up with a view to proffering solutions capable of leading to improved performance in future polls.

The Governor, while inaugurating the committee at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Umuahia, said that even though the Peoples Democratic Party won in many of the contested elections in the last elections in the state, that victory did not generate the usual euphoria that characterize the party in the previous elections.

Therefore, he urged the committee to provide the way forward for the party, including requirements for reforming and rebuilding a stronger and more resilient Abia PDP.

The Abia PDP governorship candidate, Okezie Ikpeazu, was declared the winner of the Abia State governorship election after supplementary elections were held in some Local Government Areas.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, has rejected the results of the governorship re-run election.

Expressing the view that the PDP had lost its followership in the state, APGA described the process as a travesty of the will of the people and vowed to challenge the outcome at the election tribunal. They claimed that the election results were manipulated and did not represent what transpired at the polls.
