Abia House Passes 12 Bills

Abia State House of Assembly has passed a total of 12 bills during the fourth and last session of its sitting.

Two other major bills are currently undergoing considerations by members, in spite of the on-going hectic electioneering campaign.

These facts were made known at a press briefing by the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Information Committee, Allwell Asiforo Okere, in Umuahia, on Wednesday.

Giving the House a pat on the back for a job well done, despite serious challenges, he noted that many resolutions were also passed during the session.

He recounted the achievements to include harmonisation of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) by the National Assembly, amendment on Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) bill, extending the tenure of the Chairman and board members from three to four years, and amendment of the Local Government Statutory Bill, which increased the stipends paid to monarchs from three percent to five percent etc.
