Abia State Caucus/Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has rejected the party’s National Working Committee, (NWC) led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s decision to replace position of the National Welfare Secretary, initially held by the state.
The Party’s member of the NWC from the state, Friday Nwosu passed on recently, leaving the position vacant.
The party however, filled in the vacant positions in the party as a result of the dead, resignation of the then National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and Secretary, Iyiola Omisore and others, which led to a wild protest and agitations in the party.
The newly appointed NWC members were to be inaugurated on Thursday but was postponed, due to protests led by some aggrieved states like Kogi, Akwa Ibom and Abia.
In a protest letter addressed to the Party National Chairman, Ganduje at the Party National Secretariat, Buhari House, Abuja on Friday, the Abia Caucus/Stakeholders, led by Stanley Ohajuruka, former Member, House of Representatives, rejects replacement move of the NWC, saying the state wasn’t carried along.
The letter reads: “Abia APC Caucus and Stakeholders have rejected the process employed by the NWC, replacing the Late FN Nwosu as National Welfare Secretary and the representative of Abia at the National Working Committee.
“The State APC has a leader in the person of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, supported by the Caucus/Stakeholders in nominating the replacement of the demised National Welfare Secretary and the representative of Abia at the NWC.
“The above position of the Caucus/stakeholders, was communicated to the National
Chairman in his office through two separate delegations led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kalu and Senator Chris Adighije respectively and the National Secretary by a delegation led by Senator Nkechi Nwaogu.

“A letter of the stakeholders, dated 15th August 2023 and signed by major Stakeholders to which was annexed the list of attendance of the nomination meeting officially conveying Caucus/Stakeholders nomination to the NWC through the National Chairman, Zonal Chairman, South East and the State Executive Committee was conveyed as well.
“Considering that Abia APC does not have a Governor and that the Deputy Speaker, who is the leader of the party in the state and the Stakeholders were not carried along by the NWC in reaching their decision, we hereby call on our National Chairman, Ganduje and the NWC to revisit their earlier decision.
“May we also, call the attention of the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leader of our great party to this passionate appeal that will help Abia APC heal from the wounds inflicted on us by similar act of external interference in the activities of our State chapter in times past and allow us to unite and reposition Abia APC for greater prospects under the God-given leadership of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“We further pledge our unalloyed loyalty and support to the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and thank him immensely, for the confidence reposed on our leader, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives,” it added.
Among the Caucus at the party Secretariat, were Senator Nkechi Nwangu, Dr Emeka Wogy, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, Chief Marshall Wokocha, Rev Row Sally William, Rep Sam Onuigbo and Chief Damel Akwari.
Others are Senator Chris Adighijie, Chibuike Jonas, Chief Kelana Ariwodo, Dr Onyinye Rufus Obi and many others.
