Aba South community pleads with FG, ABSG over deplorable roads

Etiti-Ohazu Autonomous Community in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State has pleaded with the Federal and Abia State Governments to come to their rescue by fixing their road which is on a deplorable state.

The traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze Ishmael Nnakwu, disclosed this on Monday while interacting with newsmen, stating “Obohia road has been impassable for over fifteen years, in short is up to twenty years.

Flood and erosion have made Obohia road so impassable that we are experiencing a lot of epidemics particularly malaria all over the place.

“We have made efforts to reach the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who in turn involved the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). They came and gave us some relieve but we are still passing through the ordeal.

“We are calling on the Federal and State Governments to repair Obohia road, give it a very important attention, such that the road will be constructed with standard gutters to take these flood to the nearby borrow pits.

“If it is not done, we will continue to suffer, and I know we all voted and will continue to vote, provided our environment is okay.

“The flood from all the adjoining streets of Aba is coming down to Obohia road. So we are in trouble. We call on the Federal and State government to assist us, to alleviate our sufferings”.

He however commended the NOA/UNICEF for organising a sensitisation programme in his community which was centered on Essential Family Practices, EFPs.

He said: “I am very grateful for the programme. My people have learnt a lot that can improve in their lives. I thank the National Orientation Agency and UNICEF for the opportunity”.

Eze Nnakwu expressed hope that his community will be one of the safest communities if they implement all they have learnt during the programme.

The traditional ruler also urged the NOA/UNICEF to keep on doing their best to ensure all the communities benefit from the sensitisation campaign.

Speaking also, the community’s women leader, Deaconess Florence Ikpengwa, said she benefitted immensely from the campaign, pointing out that it has helped to further drive home the sensitisation campaign on healthy homes which they had earlier carried out in the community.

She appealed to the government to provide basic amenities to their community as it affects health of the people especially the children.
