A4AI-Nigeria set for next quarterly coalition meeting in Lagos

Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI-Nigeria’s) next quarterly coalition meeting will take place in Lagos this September 29th, as announced by the body led by Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, former EVC of NCC, as the national coordinator.

Dr. (Mrs) Omobola Johnson, former minister of Communication Technology is the chairperson of Alliance for Affordable Internet (Nigeria); a broad coalition working to enable everyone, everywhere to access the life-changing power of the Internet.

It has more than 80 diverse member organisations from around the world — from civil society, and the public and private sectors.

A4AI said it strives to ensure all stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute to coalition activities.

Daily Times learnt that financial support for travel and accommodations is available to representatives of civil society organisations that are active members of the A4AI-Nigeria Coalition.

To obtain the fund, CSO representatives who require support to attend the upcoming coalition meeting may apply by completing a form: http://goo.gl/forms/CoOlQSExnfS7qEym1, while deadline to apply for support is September 19th.

A4AI’s mission is squarely focused on overcoming the affordability barrier to access for women, the poor, rural dwellers, and other marginalised populations that remain priced out of the digital revolution.

Specifically, they are working to achieve a “1 for 2” affordability target: 1GB of mobile broadband priced at 2 percent or less of average monthly income.

Daily Times also gathered that through a research, A4AI learnt that at this price point, even those earning the least in a society should be able to afford Internet access.
