APC clears 16 of 18 councils in Ondo LG poll

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondi State won 16 out of 18 chairmanship seats in Saturday’s state local government elections in Ondo State.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) announced that voting in Ondo West LGA was rescheduled while results from Owo LGA are still pending.

Chairman of the Joseph Aeemo, who announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Akure on Sunday noted that 12 political parties participated in the election, including the Action Alliance, the Labour Party, and the Social Democratic Party.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew, citing a lack of confidence in ODIEC’s ability to conduct a fair election.

Saturday’s poll was coming after the last council election in the state which was conducted on August 23, 2020, with the tenure of the elected council officials elapsing on August 22, 2023.
