Unknown Gunmen Murder Politician, Wife, Daughter As Relatives Go Into Hiding

Tragedy struck in Benin City when unknown gunmen gruesomely murdered in cold-blood a grassroot politician with his family members.

Mr Ben Osasumwen was tragically murdered in his apartment along with his wife and daughter, Faith Osasumwen and Loveth Osasumwen by unknown gunmen who broke into his apartment after scaling a walled-fence few weeks to the September 21st governorship election in the State.

Ben Osasumwen, 55-years of age, until his tragic death on September 5th 2024 was a prominent leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) whose influence in the political development of his community naturslly endeared him to everyone as an astute politician with enduring legacies.

However, his outstanding influence within his political party as a dominant force who has overtime unilaterally orchestrated the downfall of opposition members in his community futher earned him more political adversaries.

It was said that in the heat of the electoral campaigns involving his party, Ben Osasumwen was violently attacked by suspected thugs of the opposition party for daring to insist that his ruling PDP in the state would continue its hold on power and not relinquish it for the next 30 years adding that the 2024 election for the PDP candidate of Ighodalo Asuen would end mainly in favour of the PDP candidate.

Confirmed report at the campaign rallies revealed that supporters of the All Progressive Party (APC) and the PDP thereafter engaged each other in a free-for-all as dangerous weapons including machetes and guns were reportedly on display as Ben Osasumwen was reportedly chased away from the campaign rally by armed thugs.

However the recent attack of September 5th which led to his gruesome murder and that of his family members further reinforced the extent of the ruthlessness deployed into the political space in recent times as his attackers were said to have reportedly gained access Into his apartment by scaling his fence .

The gruesome murder of Ben Osasumwen, wife 47-years of bage and his daughter 24-years of age by the unknown gunmen, according to close neighbours in the community, was said to have instantly attracted a mammoth crowd of sympathizers as sporadic gunshots were reportedly heard from his apartment .

The victims of the gruesome murder reportedly were seen lying in their own pool of blood as their corpses were later deposited at local mortuary by the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, immediate relatives and family members of the deceased Ben Osasumwen were all said to have abandoned their homes over possible fears of being attacked in futher perpetration of the killing spree in the family.
