Okon delighted with Rivers Angels form

Rivers Angels head coach Edwin Okon has said his side have come to stay at the summit in the on-going Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).

The ‘Jewel of Rivers’ achieved the summit performance with a 2-0 win against Sunshine Queens in Wednesday’s NWFL matchday 5 clash at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

An own goal by Akudo Ogbonna in the 26th minute and a well-taken penalty off the foot of Amarachi Ojinma in the 60th minute proved adequate to hand the Port Harcourt landladies the whole three points at stake.

Okon said though his side are not yet at their peak performance, they cherished the three points against the Akure landladies.

“It was a good match, I thank God for the result as we were able to achieve what we are looking for the whole three points at stake.

“I’m happy for the three points which has seen us back to the summit once again.
“Right now we have come to stay at the summit. Even if we were challenged, we are certain to finish the group race at the top.

“I know we are not yet playing at 100 per cent performance. I’m happy we are getting the points and with time we will hit the rhythm,” said the former Super Falcons coach.

Okon informed that her former captain, Evelyn Nwabuoku, is back in the fold to strengthen the side.
