Jimoh Ibrahim Seeks Support Of Akoko Monarchs Over Guber Ambition

Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sought the support of traditional rulers in Akoko areas for his ambition to emerge the next governor of Ondo state.
Mr. Ibrahim who spoke, on Wednesday, when his campaign team visited the palace of Oloba of Oba Akoko, Oba Adeniyi Adegoroye said his government would give adequate priority to the traditional rulers if elected.
He underscored the importance of rotational and regional government in the political hemisphere of Ondo state.
The PDP candidate said that if his main challenger, Olusegun Mimiko, had abide by the rotational system in the politics of the state, he would not have participated in the race to the Alagbaka government house.
“If Mimiko had picked an Akoko man or woman as his successor, or someone from Southern Senatorial District; I would not have come out to contest.
“That is the fight we are fighting now; for equity, fairness and justice to every part of this state, and not that a district will hold on to power for sixteen years in a stretch. That is not good enough”
He vowed that an Akoko indigene would succeed his government if elected as the next governor of the state in the November 26, 2016 gubernatorial election.
Mr. Ibrahim promised that his government would dole out five percent of fund from the monthly Federal Allocation entering into the treasury of the state to develop the local communities through the channel of the traditional institution.
Remarking on behalf of other monarchs in the area, the Oloba of Oba-Akoko, Oba Adeniyi Adegoroye, bemoaned that Akoko as a region have been locked out in the developmental scheme of the state as it pertains to dividence of democracy.
Oba Adegoroye said the gain of the people from the northern district of the state is for an indigene from the region to take over the rein of government after the next dispensation.
“We have concluded that its already late for an Akoko man to be the next governor.
“But we must ensure that we have a political alignment with a particular candidate from the part of the state that agreed to hand over power to our son after his own tenure.
“We are very conscious of the fact that if we give our votes to our brothers from the South, it will be easy for us as Akokos.
“We will expect that the governorship slot should rotates to the North in the next dispensation and particularly the Akoko part of the North”, monarch said.
The Daily Times Correspondent reported that the PDP governorship candidate later led the train of his campaign team to the palaces of Olusupare of Supare, Oba Kasali Adejoro, the Olusin of Owalusin, Oba Stephen Ogunoye and Olubaka of Oka land, Oba Adebori Adeleye where he received royal blessing.
