’80 Percent Borno Voters Ready for Elections’

An estimated 80 percent of eligible voters in Borno State have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said.
These include those of the controversial Maisandari Ward of the Maiduguri metropolitan area who could not pick theirs since the first batch came in from Abuja.
Spokesperson of INEC, Tommy Magbuin, commended the development, adding that the agency had moved slowly but surely to ensure that the elections were held in all the internally displaced camps in the state capital.
He said that only about eleven units PVC’s were outstanding in the state, adding that such cards would surely get to Maiduguri, even after elections, since they would still be useful for future elections.
Apart from Maiduguri metropolitan council, where elections would be held in almost fifteen camps, local councils like Bayo, Kwayakusar Shani, Hawul, Bui, Chibok, Damboa, Jere, Mafa and Magumeri, would have theirs on their soil, because INEC staff had been assured of adequate protection.
