70 days in captivity: Parents of abducted Niger school pupils resign fate to God

*Say ‘we sold all our properties’
Parents of the 156 abducted pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school in Niger State say they have resigned their fate to God, after the kidnappers refused the release of the kids, after they raised N50 million as ransom.
The parents said they have no money to pay the latest N20 million ransom requested by the abductors.
They lamented that the abductors have also cut communication with them. Some of the parents told newsmen that they had to sell everything they had to raise a ransom of N50 million which they paid to the bandits and could not afford any further ransom.

“We are not the only people that raised the money, many well-meaning individuals came to our aid, the school even sold quarter of their premises to raise money, it will be unfair to go back to them, so we have put our fate in God hand,” a parent said.
It was learnt that for over a week the bandits unlike in the past have not contacted the Head Teacher, Alhassan Garba Abubakar, as they used to do.
The Head Teacher, Mal. Garba while confirming the update on the release of the Islamiyya Pupils said: “We are where we are. We cannot raise N20 million ransom”.
He said that they have turned to God in prayers, seeking divine intervention as they have done everything possible and could not do anything much again.
