5 ways Kamala Harris can help Biden defeat Trump
Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris to be his running mate in the 2020 US election.
The former vice-president announced his pick via a text message to his supporters after a lengthy vetting process and intense speculation.
Daily Times brings five ways we think Kamala Harris can help Biden defeat Trump.
1. Harris’s nomination is history-making
She’s the first black woman to be nominated as a vice-presidential candidate, and only the third woman to ever get the nod from a major party.
Both Harris’s parents immigrated to the United States — her mother as a breast cancer scientist from India, and her father as an academic from Jamaica.
Harris is no stranger to making history in her political career. She’s already the first person with black or Asian-American background to serve as California’s attorney-general and the second black woman ever elected to the US Senate.
If Biden and Harris win, she’ll be the first woman ever elected as US vice-president.
2. Women votes
We cannot shy away from the fact that gender might play a major role in garnering votes. The recent friction between Trump and women over allegations of gender abuse may just be an albatross and a plus to Biden and Harris.
3. She won’t cost Democrats a Senate vote
This one is fairly straightforward. Unlike some of her other rivals for the nod, Harris hails from a state where the Republican Party barely exists, and her seat is all but certain to be filled by a rubber stamp for the Biden agenda.
4. Harris can mobilise African-American voters
Harris is an accomplished public speaker with some memorable debate and senatorial hearing performances under her belt. As a senator from California, her congressional record puts her to the left of the Democratic Party; as a former attorney general, her prosecutorial record places her in the sweet, semi-sadistic middle of American criminal-justice politics. Her profile puts her in a theoretical place to mobilise African-American voters.
5. She is liked by Democratic donors
By rising through the ranks of the largest, most competitive state Democratic Party in the country, Harris accrued a significant base of donor and activist support.
These reasons and more may just be the reason Biden and Harris would defeat Donald Trump in the coming elections.
