5 suspects in hot soup over sale of child for N500,000

The Anambra State Police Command on Thursday arrested five persons in connection with the kidnapped and sale of six-year-old Miss Chigaemezu at N500,000.

Confirming the report, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohamed Haruna, said that the child was kidnapped from Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area in the state and sold to one Mrs. Augusta Nwaokwe, aged 55 years.

Continuing, Haruna said that the buyer, Nwaokwe hails from Akaria Village in Okporo Orlu Local Government Area Imo State following vital information extracted from one of the suspects, Mr. Nnamdi Obu, who sold the child to her.

On rescuing the child, Mrs. Nwaokwe confessed to have had transactions with Mr. Obu to sell the child to her at the cost of N500,000.

According to Haruna, the five suspects which include Onyeka David, aged 35, Ifeoma Chukwudolue, aged 39 and Raymond Chinwata, aged 46, have already confessed their level of involvement in the crime and that they will soon be charged to court for prosecution.

The Daily Times recalls that father to the kidnapped victim, Mr. Eze of 30 Onyekwere Street Okpoko, had reported to police about his missing daughter since October 11, 2018 and based on information before the police, the suspects were arrested and the daughter rescued.

But the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Garba Baba Umar, urged members of the public to be security conscious of their immediate environment and report suspicious persons to the nearest Police Station for prompt response.

The CP further assured all Ndi Anambra that the Command will continue to serve and protect all citizens with integrity and in accordance with internationally acceptable best practices.
