43 Arrested Over Killing of DPO in Ibadan

 

Residents of Adekile community in Orita Aperin area of Ibadan have deserted their home following the arrest of 43 suspects by the police over the killing of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and three others in the area last week .

The state Police Command yesterday confirmed the arrest of two more persons alleged to be principal suspects in connection with the murder of the DPO attached to the Agugu Police Division.
It was learnt that residents of the community resolved into fleeing the houses following the invasion of
the area by policemen and alleged indiscriminate arrest of residents of by men of the state Police Command.

During a visit to the area yesterday, the ever bubbling community has turned to a ghost town as residential buildings, shops and even churches and mosques in the area have been deserted with armed policemen sighted patrolling.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, while speaking on the incident, said at present 43 suspects including two persons alleged to be the principal suspects in the killing of the DPO have been arrested.

According to him, 41 suspects were arrested by men of the state Police Command between last Wednesday night and Thursday which subsequently led to the arrest of the two alleged principal suspects at the weekend.

The police image maker said policemen are still patrolling the area to prevent hoodlums in the community from further unleashing havoc on innocent citizens in the area and its environs, saying,“the Command has beefed up security in the area to forestall any breakdown of law and order. We are still patrolling the area, and normalcy has been restored.”
