Also, during the past administration, the former president Goodluck Jonathan promised Nigerians, the girls’ parents and the people of Chibok that the girls will also be returned safely.
However, since assuming office in May 2015, the Bring Back Our Girls group, a group led by the former minister of education Obiageli Ezekwesili have accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration of nonchalance on issues concerning the girls’ release.
On September 30, while commemorating 900 days of the girls’ abduction, the BBOG group made four strong demands on President Buhari.
They also said that so much time have been wasted in mere promises of the girls’ rescue.
Read the four demands below:
1. Mr President; No more excuses
The group in its demand said the time for excuses is long gone. They asked the president to take the right steps in ensuring the release of the abducted girls.
In fact, a mother to one of the girls, Esther Yakubu said the president to heed to the demands of the terrorists by releasing their group members so that the girls can be released from captivity.
2. Mr. President; No more Delay
Members of the BBOG group lamented the unnecessary delay by the federal government of Nigeria to rescue the girls.
One of the speakers at the 900 days commemoration said it is sad for anyone to believe that the girls were still in captivity after such a long time.
Another speaker, the spokesperson for the Human Rights Watch Mausi Segun, said she could say she was happy to be at the group’s meeting.
3. Mr. President; Decide now!
The group in their demand also mandated President Buhari to take firm decision on the way forward. They said the president must DECIDE NOW on ensuring the girls’ rescue.
4. Mr. President; Act now, we want result
The BBOG group members did not just make their demands and walk away, no. They made their point clear to the president that they were not just gathering for him to take actions, but to deliver positive result – the girls’ rescue from terrorists captivity.
