4 APC Reps dump party for opposition parties

Four members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday defected from the party to opposition political parties.

The members who left the APC are Hon Lawali Hassan, who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Hon Dapo Lam Adesina, who moved to the Action Democratic Party (ADC); Hon. Segun Williams, who joined the Labour Party and Hon Abiodun Dada, who switched to the Accord Party.

The former APC members in separate letters read on the floor of the House of Representatives by Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara, announced their defection from the APC which controls the majority in the House.

Hon Hassan represents Anka/Mafara Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, where the party is currently in turmoil over the party’s primaries held in the state.

His defection from the ruling party was celebrated by the main opposition party, the PDP.

Hon Adesina, son of the former governor of Oyo State represents Ibadan North- East/South- East Federal Constituency and he has had a running battle with the governor of his state over the crisis ravaging the state chapter of the APC.

The defection of Hon Williams, who represents Abeokuta South, appears to be a huge surprise to the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon Yusuff Lasun, who exclaimed “you too” when his defection was announced.

The Daily Times reports that the Ogun State chapter of the APC is also engulfed in crisis over the choice of candidates.
