30, 000 volunteers join green revolution in Imo

More than 4, 000 jobs have been created by Imo state government within the three month of the present administration even as 30,000 volunteers joined the green revolution programme of the state government.

The former governor of the state and Chairman Environmental Committee, Chief Ikedi Ohakim made the disclosure in Owerri during the unveiling of the items assembled by the state government for the August sanitation exercise across the state.

He further said that the people were directly and indirectly engaged to render services such as planting of trees, flowers, cleaning of gutters and sweeping of the state in line with the green revolution agenda of the state government.

“Governor Ihedioha’s environmental programme has attracted more than 30, 000 volunteers. Also, the governor has created 4, 000 jobs in the area of environment. We all can see that he has done well so far,” Ohakim stated.

In a related development, Gov. Ihedioha will confer on some Nollywood actors, including Charles Awurum, Osita Iheme, Victor Osuagwu, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Longinus Anokwute among others, “as green/sanitation ambassadors’ of the state.”

Meanwhile, monitoring the sanitation exercise at Obowo, Ihitte/Uboma and Ehime Mbano council areas in Okigwe zone of the state last Saturday, the governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Chief Chris Okewulonu said the exercise is cardinal to the rebuild agenda of the state government.

He said that the current administration in the state is committed to ensuring that the state is adjudged the cleanest in the country and would give priority attention to the health and overall well-being of the people.

He also urged the people to participate actively in the exercise and continue to give the government the needed support and cooperation to succeed for the benefit of the state.

The state government assembled sanitation equipment and distributed them for the exercise across the 27 council areas of the state, such as 20, 000 waste bins, disposable bags, trucks, pail loaders.
