2027: LP inaugurates 24-member interim executive in Ebonyi

The National leadership of the Labour Party has inaugurated a 24-member interim executive in Ebonyi State as part of efforts to restore stability and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Committee, unveiled under the authority of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, is led by veteran politician Chief Henry Udeh (AjimBest), who will serve as Chairman representing Ebonyi South.
Comrade Innocent Igiri from Ebonyi Central was named Secretary, while Engr. Nwede Joshua Igwebuike from Ebonyi North was appointed Organising Secretary.
In a move aimed at strengthening gender inclusion, the party also announced Hajia Rabiu Abubakar of Ebonyi North as State Woman Leader. She will work with zonal women leaders including Chief Mrs. Ngozi Nwaleke (Ebonyi North), Mrs. Ngozi Ekuma (Ebonyi South), and Blessing Okoroafor (Ebonyi Central) to enhance female participation across the party structure.
To reinforce its institutional framework, the party appointed Barr. Ikey Nwobo as State Legal Adviser and Comrade Louis Nwebonyi as Publicity Secretary.
The inauguration effectively ends months of uncertainty and a leadership vacuum that had plagued the Labour Party in the state.
Reacting to the development, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate and leader in the state, Comrade Splendour Eze Oko, expressed confidence in the new council.
He said stakeholders and grassroots leaders were prepared to work with the interim leadership to rebuild unity and consolidate the party’s influence.
Also speaking, the 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, described the inauguration as timely, saying it reaffirmed the Labour Party’s position as a credible and resilient opposition force in Ebonyi politics.
