2027: Igbo community in Jos backs Mutfwang for second term, cites inclusive governance

The Igbo Community Association (ICA) in Jos has endorsed Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau state, for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election, citing his performance and inclusive approach to governance.

Mike Okunonke, president-general of the ICA, announced the endorsement during a condolence visit by the governor to Ambassador Nelson Mkparu, chief executive officer of NELMACO Global Resources, following the death of his wife, Ifeoma Mkparu.

Okunonke said the decision was rooted in the visible impact of Mutfwang’s administration on infrastructure, security, and business development, which has benefited all residents, including the Igbo community.

“We supported Governor Mutfwang massively in 2023 and have no regrets. From abandoned roads like Apata to ongoing projects in Utan, Namua, and Jenta Adamu, the transformation is clear. Our people feel included and secure under this administration,” he said.

The ICA leader described the governor’s visit to the bereaved family as a powerful show of solidarity, noting that such gestures deepen the community’s sense of belonging.

“Your visit is not only a show of solidarity but also a reflection of your humility and genuine love for our people. The peaceful and enabling environment your administration has cultivated encourages us to continue to see Plateau as home, and we are ready to reward your good governance with massive votes come 2027,” he added.

In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang thanked the Igbo community for their support, describing them as “a stabilising force” in the state.

“You have consistently shown dedication to peace and development on the Plateau. I’m not saying this to score political points — your contributions are visible and deeply appreciated,” he said.

Mutfwang also highlighted the significance of the investments made by Igbo entrepreneurs like Mkparu, pledging continued collaboration with communities committed to the state’s progress.

“It is heartwarming to see that many of you have chosen to call Plateau home and are investing billions here. We are committed to fostering strong partnerships with progressive-minded individuals and communities like yours,” he said.

He assured the community of his government’s continued recognition of their role in the state’s socio-economic growth.

“We value your friendship, your enterprise, and your commitment. By the grace of God, we will continue to build a Plateau that works for all,” he added.
