2027 Election: ADC Welcomes Timetable, Demands Clarity on Electronic Transmission
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the timely release of the 2027 election timetable, while simultaneously challenging the electoral body to prove its commitment to technological integrity.
In a statement released on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the early release of the schedule for the Presidential and National Assembly elections as a welcome development.
Abdullahi noted that the timetable provides much-needed clarity for political parties, stakeholders, and the Nigerian electorate, enabling better long-term planning and democratic preparation.
However, the ADC spokesman was quick to warn that punctuality alone would not guarantee a successful election.
He asserted that the credibility of the 2027 polls will ultimately be judged not by the schedule, but by the Commission’s “demonstrable commitment to transparency, technological integrity, and strict adherence to due process throughout the electoral cycle.”
Abdullahi highlighted the issue of real-time electronic transmission of results as / critical litmus test for the commission.
He expressed concern that while INEC has promised to operate within the law, the current Electoral Act still leaves room for “procedural discretion” in key areas that directly impact public confidence.
Concluding the statement on his X page, Abdullahi urged the electoral umpire to close the gap on uncertainty.
“The ADC therefore urges INEC to provide early and unambiguous clarity to Nigerians on its readiness to adopt the real-time electronic transmission of results,” he wrote.
