2027: Abia APC Endorses Tinubu, Rallies Behind Kalu as State Leader
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, declaring him the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced on Sunday at the party’s Pre-Congress and National Convention Stakeholders Meeting held in Bende, Bende Local Government Area of the state.
At the meeting, party leaders also affirmed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, as the leader of the APC in Abia State, citing his role in revitalising and strengthening the party’s base.
Addressing stakeholders, Kalu said the gathering was convened to consolidate party structures ahead of the 2027 elections and to ensure victory for President Tinubu.
According to him, all ongoing reorganisation efforts at the ward, local government and state levels are geared towards delivering the President in the next general election.
He subsequently moved a motion for the formal adoption of Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the presidency in 2027, a proposal that received unanimous approval through a voice vote and was seconded by the party’s National Welfare Secretary.
Kalu also highlighted the outcome of the recently concluded electronic membership registration, revealing that the party registered over 160,000 members across the state.
He noted that despite initial scepticism due to the absence of a sitting APC governor in Abia, the party surpassed projected targets, attributing the success to grassroots mobilisation and commitment of members.
The Deputy Speaker acknowledged challenges encountered during the exercise, including limited NIN registration machines and network disruptions, which he said constrained the number of people captured.
Calling for unity, Kalu warned against factional tendencies within the party, insisting that the era of internal divisions was over.
He further disclosed that nomination forms for the upcoming ward congresses had been secured and would be distributed to members, stressing that the process would be inclusive and transparent.
Other stakeholders at the meeting commended Kalu’s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests, formally backing him as the APC leader in Abia State.
