2026: NYSC DG calls on corps members to deepen patriotism, national service

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on corps members to deepen their sense of patriotism and commitment to national service as Nigeria enters the 2026 service year.
In his New Year message, Nafiu commended corps members and NYSC staff for their dedication and resilience in 2025, noting that their efforts contributed significantly to the successes recorded by the Scheme. He thanked them for their patriotism and sacrifice in the discharge of national duties.
The NYSC boss urged corps members to take deliberate action in serving the country by supporting ministries, departments and agencies, while also promoting unity and national rebirth.
He called on them to remain visible symbols of unity and progress, especially in the face of current national challenges.
“I welcome all NYSC staff and corps members to 2026. Thank you for your patriotism, dedication, and resilience in 2025, which contributed to our many successes.
“The old year has passed, and a new one has begun. As we start this year, I urge everyone to take concrete action: serve our country and humanity by actively supporting ministries, departments, and agencies, promote national unity and rebirth, and serve as visible examples of unity and progress, especially amid the current challenges facing our nation. Let us commit to making a tangible difference together.”
Nafiu said management remains committed to strengthening national unity through improved service delivery and expanded empowerment programmes, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative.
He encouraged corps members and staff to approach their responsibilities with renewed dedication and professionalism.
According to him, the Scheme is determined to build on its existing achievements and make 2026 a productive and rewarding year for both corps members and the nation.
He urged them to seize every opportunity to make a positive and lasting impact in their places of primary assignment and host communities.
“Management remains committed to strengthening national unity. We are improving service delivery and expanding corps empowerment, particularly through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“I challenge all Corps Members and Staff to actively embrace the tasks ahead with renewed dedication and professionalism, seizing every opportunity to make a positive impact.
“Lets build on our successes and make 2026 a rewarding year for the NYSC Scheme and Nigeria. Remember, Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve. I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year,” he said.
